Olivers Apparel is a San Francisco based startup founded by David Wolfe in 2013 via Kickstarter, that is  working on improving athletic clothes and men’s basics by mixing style and technology. As you might have seen on my Snapchat, a few weeks ago I received a pair of their All Over Shorts, and after taking them for a few runs I want to share my experience with you.

Slate Olivers Apparel Shorts

I picked the All Over Shorts in slate, which is basically gray. They’re made of a mix of Nylon and Spandex, the resulting fabric feeling a bit different from what I’m used to, but it’s pretty comfortable. They’re also water repellent, a feature I tested by sprinkling water all over the shorts and seeing the droplets literally bouncing off of them.

Besides this convenient fabric and great looks, another thing I really liked was the length, which sits just a little bit above the knee. I don’t know about you, but for me there’s nothing more annoying than a pair of shorts that gets in your way when you’re trying to exercise. Whether I’m going for a run or doing yoga, I need something that allows me to move freely without having to deal with extra fabric getting in my way. (I’m looking at you, ugly-as-hell basketball shorts.)

This is one of the best pair of shorts I’ve ever owned. I like how they’re perfect for my athletic needs, but I can also wear them on a lazy weekend or a regular day to go out and run errands if I need to without looking like I come directly from the gym.  I’ll definitely be taking them out a lot more when the hot days arrive.

Overall I’m very pleased with the Olivers shorts, and  I can’t wait to see what else they’re going to bring to the market of athletic clothes that make you look good instead of goofy. For now, their next project is an alternative to regular cotton underwear, called the Oliver briefs. They replicated the winning formula of their shorts and used Kickstarter to fund the project, which managed to raise five times the initial goal, something  that speaks for itself about the level of satisfaction the customers have for the company.
